    Hey r/gadgets,

Today we're excited to announce that we have made our very own Discord Server!

What is Discord? Discord is a free-to-use chat platform, which we are using as a way for users to engage with eachother and have discussions surrounding gadgets and technology in general. We feel this will be a great way for users to meet others and have some great discussions.

Think of this Discord as a sort of "extension" of the subreddit. You do not have to join it, but if you'd like to have some more "live" discussions with other users about gadgets/tech then this would be a great thing for you to join! We have a variety of channels that we think are relevant to gadgets/tech, if you have any feedback surrounding the server there is a designated feedback channel in the actual server.

Is there a gadget that can screen mirror android to a non smart tv without wifi?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 07:35 PM PST

My grandfather refuses to upgrade his tv and insists that he doesn't need wifi because he uses it on his phone. He also won't pay at&t to setup a hotspot, but he wants to watch netflix on his big tv instead of his phone. I was thinking maybe there is some kind of bluetooth tool that will let him cast his phone to his tv without a cable directly wiring him it. Anyone know if this kind of tech is available?

Can you make the Galaxy Fold sound like a Shiekah Slate?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 07:19 AM PST

It's too early for a Shiekah Slate phone cover, but ever since I saw the Fold, I wanted it to have one feature more than anything in the world. When you open it, I want it to play the sound of the Shiekah Slate opening. So how can I do this?
Short answer: You can't right now.
Real answer: I've called the Galaxy Fold hotline they have for new users 1800-970-3653 (1800-970-FOLD haha), and asked if they had a feature for a customizable sound that plays when you open the Fold. The guy I talked to said he couldn't find an option like that anywhere, but there was hope.
He said that the development team is listening in on these calls for feedback on the Fold, and that he'd send over my suggestion to have a sound play when you open it. My hope is, that I'm not the only one that would want this feature, and that if enough people ask for this It'll actually be implemented.
I'm not really one for the whole 'personal army' kinda thing, but if anyone here agrees with me, and would like to pass the suggestion as well, that would be incredibly rad.
If you're reading this, have a lovely day c:

Looking for a tablet that uses NTFS file system

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:32 AM PST

Made the mistake of buying a Fire tablet, which uses the exFAT file system. I have .iso files of DVDs I own, and would like to watch them on the go while at the gym, traveling, etc. No, I don't want to convert the files. Android has the VLC App that supports .iso file types, but with the Fire's exFAT support only, it's out.

Does anyone have experience with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A, or other Samsung tablets? Do they support NTFS, and using the VLC android app, would they play .iso files I'd add with a micro SD card?

    Thanks!
